To get to the Sai Wan Battery you need to head up the Chai Wan Gap. On the way you will come across the Salesian Mission not long before a turn off from the main road to a path up to the battery. On the night of the 18th December, the siege of Hong Kong island turned into the invasion of the island and the greatly outnumbered defenders occupying the coastal positions were relatively quickly overrun. The Japanese forces then rapidly headed inland, heading for the high ground of Mount Butler, Mount Parker and Jardine's Lookout. On the way, they secured the Lyemun Barracks and Fort opposite Devils Peak. The Sai Wan Battery was also one of the early targets. Near to the battery is the Salesian Mission which was occupied by medical personnel. On the morning of the 19th the Japanese soldiers of the 2nd or 3rd Battalion of the 229th Infantry Division murdered the medics and wounded who were at the mission. This was just one the many massacres carried out by the Japanese Imperial Army during the invasion.

Gateposts can be seen and a ramped building which I'm guessing would have acted as the guard room.

After passing the blocks on the way in the top of the hill brings you to the battery area. The building here held ammunition and was probably also the main command area. Entering it is prevented by bars across the entry points.

Following the road around takes you to a ramp to the gun emplacements.

At the top of the building can be seen an emplacement.

In this room can be seen where bunks were kept against the wall.
